Certificate in Breast Imaging – Screening (CBIS)

Purpose of the Program

The Certificate in Breast Imaging – Screening (CBIS) program is designed to provide knowledge and demonstrated clinical competence recognized by a credential. MRTs who perform breast imaging procedures have a special role in the healthcare of the public and must be highly competent practitioners excelling in their ability to produce quality images and to manage the patient with care and technical expertise.

There is a didactic (coursework) and clinical portion of the program. You must actively opt-in and register to each element. The purpose of the clinical component, called the Summary of Clinical Competence (SCC), is to allow the technologist to record procedures performed under the supervision of an experienced Clinical Advisor (CA) who can attest to the technologist’s competence while performing the required competencies. Programs are updated annually and all details are in the certificate Handbook – please carefully read it before registration, you follow the rules in for the year you register. Credential

Candidates who successfully complete the didactic and clinical components as per the CBIS program requirements will receive a Certificate in Breast Imaging – Screening and can use the CBIS credential. The Committee strongly advocates for continued competence through continuing professional development.
