Member Monday – Faris Albdour

Meet Your Fellow Members

This series celebrates the people behind the profession and offers an opportunity to learn from and connect with MRTs working in a wide range of settings from coast to coast! Every Monday, we’ll introduce you to a different medical radiation technologist from somewhere across Canada.

Know someone we should highlight? Let us know at maiello@camrt.ca

This week’s member spotlight is Faris Albdour

  1. Can you describe your current role and area of practice within medical radiation technology?

As a Medical Radiation Technologist (MRT) currently based in Ottawa, Ontario, my practice spans a comprehensive range of advanced diagnostic imaging modalities. My core expertise covers cardiac and vascular catheterization, computed tomography (CT), fluoroscopy, and general radiography, alongside foundational experience in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Whether I am assisting in fast-paced interventional procedures or capturing precision diagnostics, my daily focus remains on bridging advanced medical technology with compassionate patient care, ensuring strict safety standards, and working closely with healthcare teams.

2. What originally led you to pursue a career as an MRT?

Healthcare and medicine have always been deeply rooted in my family, with many of my family members working in the medical field. However, the most profound influence came from my late father. He always envisioned a medical career for me, believing deeply in the noble impact of healing and serving others. Honouring his vision, along with the unwavering support of my mother and family, I was guided to this path. I proudly earned my Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology from the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), an experience that provided me with an exceptional academic and clinical foundation to turn that dream into reality.

3. What does a typical day look like for you in your department or clinic?

A typical day in my department here in Ottawa is dynamic, fast-paced, and wonderfully diverse. Because of my multi-modality background, my days often transition between different environments—from managing real-time imaging during fluoroscopy and cardiac/vascular catheterization procedures, to operating CT scanners and performing radiography examinations, with occasional support in MRI. Each shift starts with strict equipment quality control and safety checks, followed by welcoming patients, easing their anxieties, and ensuring precise imaging. No two days are the same, which keeps my clinical skills sharp and my work deeply engaging.

4. What advice would you give to new MRTs entering the profession today?

To new MRTs stepping into the field, my biggest piece of advice is to remember that compassion is just as important as technical competence. Technology and protocols will constantly evolve, so always stay curious and keep learning. However, never lose sight of the human being behind the imaging requisition. Treat every patient the way you would want your own family member to be treated. A warm smile, gentle reassurance, and clear communication can completely transform a patient’s healthcare experience.

5. What aspects of your work do you find most rewarding?

The most rewarding part of my work is the profound realization that I am making a direct, positive difference when people need it most. Whether it is capturing a crucial diagnostic image that helps a physician map out a treatment plan, or simply watching a frightened patient let out a sigh of relief because I made them feel safe knowing that my hands and my care played a part in their healing journey is deeply fulfilling.

6. What is your favourite part about being an MRT?

My favourite part is the unique blend of science, technology, and human connection. I love the technical intricacies of medical imaging and working with advanced equipment, but what truly breathes life into this profession are the fleeting yet powerful moments spent with patients. Having the ability to alleviate someone’s fear, bring comfort to a stressful situation, and use my education to help them move forward is something I cherish every single day.
