Timeline for Regulating Radiation Therapists
On July 16, 2025, Cabinet approved the regulations to bring the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) into force on April 1, 2026. In addition, the Minister of Health, through Ministerial Orders, approved new profession-specific regulations for psychotherapy, clinical perfusion, respiratory therapy, radiation therapy, and medical laboratory technology. These new regulations will take effect on November 29, 2027. At that time, these groups will become regulated by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC).
This marks a significant and exciting milestone for radiation therapists in British Columbia. Since being designated for regulation in 2017, the profession has been awaiting a clear path forward, and now, that moment has arrived.
We are entering a new chapter for the profession, one that will strengthen public trust, elevate professional recognition, and support continued excellence in patient care.

New CPSBC Bylaws Coming April 1, 2026: What MRTs Need to Know
In summer 2025, the CPSBC held a public consultation on draft bylaws that will take effect on April 1, 2026 under the HPOA, including bylaws on delegation to MRTs. The consultation closed August 31.
CAMRT-BC submitted feedback on behalf of MRTs, emphasizing the need for regulation through defined scope of practice, protected title, and provincial licensure to strengthen public safety and support consistent, safe practice across BC.
Until all MRTs are formally regulated in BC, delegation remains the mechanism that enables them to carry out certain aspects of practice and restricted activities in medical imaging facilities in BC.
