____________________________________________________________________________________ The RAIN Project James Senyk, Technologist, RAIN (Radiology Artificial Intelligence Network) The discontinuance of outdated technologies and evolution of artificial intelligence to improve radiology department workflow. The potential use of clinical histories to develop predictive models using artificial intelligence. James Senyk holds a Bachelor of science in biochemistry. He is a registered technologist in X-ray and MRI with14 year’s experience working in clinical and research MRI. James started the RAIN project with partners five years ago as a passion project. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Panel Discussion – The Impact of Professional Pride and Advocacy Multiple Speakers Join us for a discussion about how professional pride and advocacy affect public awareness of the profession. We will also be discussing these impacts on enrolment in MRT programs, awareness of the MRT disciplines as a career option and exploring how professional pride and public awareness affect Union contract negotiations. Discussion will also focus on personal ways to advocate and raise awareness of the profession. Jordan Veale is a dedicated medical radiation technologist (MRT) with over 13 years of experience as an educational assistant in the Medical Radiologic Technology program at Red River College Polytechnic. His role has been instrumental in mentoring future healthcare professionals and delivering high-quality education in the field. Jordan is a current member of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) MRT Exam Validation Committee, where he contributes his expertise to uphold standards in MRT education and certification. His commitment to the profession extends beyond his teaching role; he has volunteered in various capacities with both CAMRT and the former Manitoba Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (MAMRT). A passionate advocate, Jordan emphasizes the importance of recognizing the critical role of medical radiation technologists within the healthcare team. He works tirelessly to promote the visibility and value of MRTs, striving to ensure they receive the acknowledgment they deserve in the healthcare system. Through his contributions to education and advocacy, Jordan Veale continues to inspire students and colleagues in the medical radiation technology field, fostering a culture of respect and recognition for all MRTs. His unwavering dedication reaffirms the vital impact MRTs have on patient care and the healthcare community as a whole. Sandra Luke graduated from the St. Boniface General Hospital School of Radiography program (Winnipeg) in 1989. This was the start of a career in which she has held many roles – general radiography technologist, mammographer, clinical instructor (MRT), didactic instructor (MRI/S, MRT), DI department manager, and quality assurance manager for the regional DI program. Sandra was fortunate as well to work as an RTR in Australia for a short time. After graduating she aspired to work in the United States and held memberships in the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) for several years. She currently works at Red River College Polytechnic as an instructor in the MRT program.
In 2002 she earned her Advanced Certification, Radiography status while simultaneously receiving her MRI/S diploma from Red River College. In 2019, she completed the Radiation Safety Officer Level 1 course and leads several programs at Red River College Polytechnic under this umbrella.
Sandra started volunteering for her provincial organization, MAMRT, as the public relations spokesperson. She was featured in the city newspaper under the careers section. The same year she started her lengthy tenure volunteering with the CAMRT. Sandra has volunteered with the CAMRT for almost 25years. Here are some of the volunteer positions she has held at the CAMRT:

Sandra is passionate about her profession and fully supports her professional associations. It is demonstrated through her commitment to all these volunteer positions. Her dedication was proven during her own personal battle with cancer as she continued to work and made a trip to Ottawa for a board of directors meeting while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
Sandra advocates for the MRT profession at every opportunity given to her, be it through media publications that she has written or speaking opportunities. She promotes volunteerism to her students and colleagues and is constantly recruiting MRTs for volunteer positions both at the provincial and national levels. She is proud to be recognized in the MRT community as a champion of the profession and loves to share her knowledge obtained through her many years of experience. • MAMRT Colin Maxwell Memorial Award Sandra is a life-long learner and encourages others to continue learning in their chosen profession and about all MRT professions at every opportunity. Cynthia Kulczycki is a full-time instructor at RRC Polytech in the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Program, a division of the Allied Health Sciences Department. Cynthia, an alumna of Red River College herself, graduated from the Medical Radiologic Technology Program in 2002. A few years later, furthering her education, graduating from the Michener Institute in 2006 with a specialty in Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Since becoming an educator, Cynthia has been committed to teaching excellence, achieving a Certificate in Adult Education and most recently completing the ENVISION Leadership Training Program at RRC Polytech. Since August of 2016, Cynthia has been a passionate educator, coming to Red River College Polytechnic directly from Industry with extensive clinical Medical Radiation Technology experience. Through her roles as both a General Duty MRI Technologist, and Charge MRI Technologist at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Cynthia has fostered a passion for the field of MRI and a desire to teach the next generation of MRI Technologists. Cynthia has volunteered with the CAMRT, sitting on several committees, including the Exam Validation Committee, Exam writing working group, and most recently the Best Practices Guidelines Committee representing the field of MRI. Christine Preachuk has been an MRT for almost 30 years. She started as a general duty x-ray technologist, working in rural and clinic settings before joining the team at HSC in 2000. In 2009, she became the clinical instructor, holding this position until 2021, when she moved into a management role in the Diagnostic Imaging program. She currently oversees CT, X-ray, Mammography and MRI at HSC, as well as MRI at Pan Am Clinic.
Christine was a board member for the previous MAMRT for 10 years. She is also an original member and the current chair of the ad hoc committee for self-regulation for MRTs and sonographers in Manitoba and is proud that the application was completed and submitted in 2021 and is currently sitting with Government for review. She has also volunteered with the CAMRT over the years in various capacities, including exam item writing, exam validation committee (2 years as committee chair), competency profile working group and is a current member of the Education Advisory Council. Christine is also on the Advisory Committee for the textbook “Merrill’s Atlas for Radiographic Positioning”, and is the current instructor for the CAMRT CPD course, “The Chest Image”.
In her spare time, Christine is involved in the Ukrainian community and loves singing with one of the local performing Ukrainian choirs. Breanne Peddle graduated from the School of RT before departing to start her career as a Radiation Therapist at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Breanne has clinical experience in treatment delivery, simulation, brachytherapy, and also assisted in preparing and assessing patients on clinical trials in the radiation therapy department. She also had experience on the Accreditation Team, the Quality Assurance Committee and Integrated Safety Committee. Breanne has also been very active with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT), serving as a Board Member for 4 years, and volunteering her time with multiple endeavors including the Professional Practice Advisory Council, CAMRT Foundation, and Item Writing. Last September, Breanne moved back to her home province of Manitoba after accepting a position as RT Manager at CancerCare Manitoba, and has been in this role since then. Tim Smith has led MAHCP’s internal and external communications team and advocacy efforts since 2021, following two years of directly supporting MAHCP’s president. He has extensive experience in stakeholder engagement, issue management, government relations and strategic communications. Prior to MAHCP, Tim worked for two Manitoba health ministers and in the non-profit sector. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Fostering leaders – How do we do this? Jenna MacLaine, President, CAMRT Define the meaning of leadership. Explore how to build leadership skills. Discuss how to continue to foster and mentor leaders. Jenna MacLaine has been a Medical Radiological Technologist at Thompson General Hospital for 18 years. She was educated as an MRT (Radiological Technology) at Red River College Polytechnic and holds a BSc in Human Science from Athabasca University and the CT Imaging Certificate (CTIC) from CAMRT. Jenna recently became a fellow of the CAMRT in 2022. Taking on many volunteer roles at MAMRT, Jenna’s volunteering provincially culminated in a 4-year term as MAMRT President. Following that, she was nominated and was elected to the CAMRT Board of Directors in 2019, serving on the Board since July of 2020. Jenna has served on the CAMRT Board as Treasurer, Vice President and is now President. Internationally Jenna volunteers with RAD-AID, which has included an outreach trip to Tanzania in 2020 and a role as Associate Program Manager for RAD-AID’s International Learning Program since 2021. Jenna has participated in CAMRT’s Leadership Development Institute in 2012. Shandi Strong has a long history of volunteerism in the 2SLGBTQ+ Community. Shandi continues to support Winnipeg’s 2SLGBTQ+ community by volunteering, participating and providing content and photography for various community events and for the Rainbow Resource Centre. She wrote regularly for Outwords Magazine and has been involved in many roles for Pride Winnipeg. Throughout all this, she maintains a profile in local media speaking on Transgender related issues and enjoys speaking to groups, schools and organizations about her personal journey in an effort to foster understanding and raise awareness of Transgender issues. Shandi released her autobiography “Growing A Pair” in February 2018 and was one of the first mentors for Big Brothers Big Sisters PRISM program for 2SLGBTQ+ youth. Shandi was the first ever transgender Grand Marshall of Winnipeg’s Pride Parade and she has also received the “Trailblazer” award from the Manitoba LGBT*Chamber of Commerce. For many years, Shandi has organized and spoke at the annual Trans Day of Remembrance and in 2018 she instigated and lead a group of volunteers to create Winnipeg’s Annual Trans March to celebrate trans lives by brining the community together. Most recently, Shandi was recognized by L’Oreal Canada as a “Woman of Worth” honouree. Shandi volunteers in various capacities to support the 2SLGBTQ+ community. During the 2016 Provincial election, Shandi was nominated and ran as the first ever openly transgender provincial candidate in Canada for the Manitoba Liberal Party. She ran again in the 2019 and 2023 Provincial elections. Since 2016 she has stayed active in politics working as the constituency assistant to Dr. Jon Gerrard, former MLA for River Heights, the Manitoba Liberal Caucus and as the secretary for the Manitoba Liberal Women’s Association, President for the Fort Garry Constituency Association and sites on the 2SLGBTQ+ Commission of the Manitoba Liberal Party.ing feedback strategies that promote both psychological safety and meaningful learning.
