CAMRT-MB Provincial Advisory Council

 

The CAMRT-MB Advisory Council offers expertise and support to the CAMRT Board of Directors and staff regarding issues relating to MRT practice and provincial member services in Manitoba. It is a critical voice in representing MRTs in Manitoba, assessing member needs in areas such as continuing professional development, advocacy, social events, awards and member recognition. Crystal Kobe, BSc, RTT, CDC

Role:  Didactic and Clinical Treatment Planning Educator – CancerCare Manitoba School of Radiation Therapy

 

Crystal Kobe began her career at the Vancouver Cancer Centre in British Columbia (2002-2009).  In 2010 she moved to Winnipeg and has been working as both a didactic and clinical instructor with the CancerCare Manitoba School of Radiation Therapy ever since.  Crystal is a graduate of the CAMRT Leadership Development Institute (2015) and completed her Canadian Dosimetry Certificate (CDC) in 2020.  She participated in the CAMRT Future of MRT Education Symposium (2015) and currently sits on the CDC Committee and is the instructor of the CAMRT Dosimetry 1 course.  Crystal has been recognized for her contributions to the MRT profession with honorary awards such as the MAMRT (Wm.) Bill Doern Service Award (2018), MAMRT Award for Team Excellence as part of the School of RT team (2018) and her research paper The Second Victim Phenomenon: Perspective of Canadian Radiation Therapists was chosen by the Canadian Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences as Editor’s Choice Award for Top 5 paper (2019).  Crystal is an advocate for the MRT profession and believes CAMRT-MB is in a n excellent position to serve the members at the provincial and national levels.  In her spare time, you can find Crystal spending time with her husband and kids, 2 cats and dog or volunteering within her community.

 

Jo Vaquilar, BSc, RTR, RTMR

Role: MRI Technologist, Selkirk Regional Health Centre

 

Jo Vaquilar has achieved a Bachelor of Science from the University of Winnipeg and has also completed RRC Polytech MRT and MRI programs.  In 2017 she received the MAMRT MRI Registration Award for achieving the highest standing on the National Certification examination for MRI in Manitoba.  Jo currently works as a General Duty MRI Technologist at Selkirk Regional Health Centre.  She has also worked as an MRI technologist at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg and St. Paul’s Hospital in downtown Vancouver.  Along with her experience as an MRI tech, Jo has also contributed to the healthcare setting as a Radiological Technologist, respite worker and counsellor for Klinic Crisis/Sexual Assault Crisis Lines.  Jo is a first-generation immigrant who is cognizant of diversity and the importance of listening to other peoples unique experiences when advocating for all MRTs.  She has a goal to advocate for better work-life balance for MRT.  In her spare time she enjoys walking her dog Bowser, playing board games with friends and having coffee with her partner.

 

Emily Wood, BSc, RTR

Role: General Duty Radiological Technologist – Health Sciences Centre

 

Emily Wood is a General Duty Radiological Technologist at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.  She provides imaging in various roles within the facility including portable and forensics, ER and inpatients as well as outpatient clinics, operating room, endoscopy and central line placement.  During her undergrad, Emily had the privilege of being awarded a seat through Explore Canada to study French for a term in Trois-Rivières, Québec.  While in Québec she was able to live and learn while immersed in the language.  In 2017 Emily earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, graduating with honors on the Dean’s List of Highest Distinction.  In 2019 Emily graduated from Red River College Polytech once again graduating with honors.  While attending RRC, Emily worked in the Academic Success Center as both a lab and academic tutor.  Emily is a passionate advocate and ally for the LGBTQ2S+ community.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time at her cabin, hiking or cuddling up at home with her kitten.

 

Lindsay Cross, RTNM, CTIC(N)

Role: Technical Instructor/Radiation Safety Officer – Health Sciences Centre

 

Lindsay Cross has been working as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist since 2013 after graduating from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.  She completed her clinical training in Winnipeg and was awarded both the General Proficiency Award in Nuclear Medicine and the MAMRT Registration Award for Nuclear Medicine in 2013.  She began her career working in the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre Radiopharmacy and doing research for the Radiopharmaceutical Research Group.  In 2014, she started her imaging career at the HSC Nuclear Medicine Department and in October 2022 moved into the role of Clinical Instructor and Radiation Safety Officer.

 

 

Ifeadikachi (Ify) Iweadinobi, RTMR

Role: MRI Technologist – Pan Am Clinic

 

Ify Iweadinobi has achieved a Bachelor of Science in Radiography and Radiological Sciences from the University of Nigeria as well as an advanced diploma in MRI and Spectroscopy from Red River College Polytech.  She is also a first-generation immigrant to Canada and currently works as an MRI technologist at Pan Am Clinic.  With a passion for diagnostic imaging and patient care, Ify has an interest in obtaining an MSc in MRI and Spectroscopy in the near future.  Ify believes CAMRT-MB has the capacity to become a strong voice in diagnostic imaging across Canada and hopes to see our members become vocal and involved in provincial activities.  She has extensive experience in hospital practice, network relations, education, sales and regulatory compliance.  When not working as an MRT, Ify enjoys making new friends, appreciating nature and spending time with family.

 

Kristen Lampron, RTR, CTIC, ACR

Role: Charge Technologist CT Department – St. Boniface General Hospital

 

Kristen graduated from Red River College’s Medical Radiological Technology program in 2011 and began working as an MRT at St. Boniface General Hospital.  Her versatility and hard work ethic allowed her to move between various positions internally, with a significant focus on fluoroscopy before transitioning to the Heart Cath Lab.  In 2017, Kristen returned to general duty radiography and soon after moved to the CT department.  Her pursuit of continuous learning led her to obtain her CTIC and Leadership courses, which paved the way for her to take on the role of CT Charge Technologist in 2020.  Since becoming Charge Technologist, Kristen has served on multiple committees and engaged in research projects, enhancing her understanding of CT processes, scanner protocols and DI policies.  A few highlights have been Kristen’s participation in a DI CT Document subcommittee for policy review, Shared Health Provincial RFP Committee and becoming a co-author of a BMJ published CT Perfusion study in 2023.  With her own sites’ accreditation approaching, Kristen sought to deepen her knowledge about the process and in 2023 she had the opportunity to join the MANQAP team through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba as a CT Accreditor.  Under their guidance, she learned how to apply the MANQAP standards to help sites align in vision.  This experience not only enriched her own departments knowledge but also allowed her to travel across Manitoba, to connect with CT peers and understand the diversity of CT departments throughout the province.  Through this experience, Kristen is able to help align practices provincially and gain a comprehensive appreciation of the intricacies involved in overseeing CT departments.

 

Stephanie Henderson, BSc, RTT, CTRT

Role: General Duty Radiation Therapist – CancerCare Manitoba

 

Stephanie Henderson  graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy through the University of Winnipeg and CancerCare Manitoba in 2019.  She was awarded both the General Proficiency Award and the 2019 Registration Award through the MAMRT in her graduating year.  Stephanie started her career working as a Radiation Therapist in Regina, Saskatchewan and moved on to work as a therapist in Brandon, Manitoba before moving into her current role at CancerCare in 2021.  In 2022, she completed her CT Certification in Radiation Therapy through the CAMRT.  Stephanie is passionate about advocating for the MRT profession in Manitoba.  In her spare time Stephanie enjoys spending time outdoors at the cabin or relaxing at home with her dog.

 

Jillian Bruneau, RTNM

Role: Charge Nuclear Medicine Technologist – Victoria Hospital

 

Jill graduated from the Nuclear Medicine Technologist program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in 2012.  She started her career as a nuclear medicine technologist in a casual capacity at St. Boniface Hospital, Grace Hospital and Victoria Hospital.  In 2014 she gained full-time permanent employment as a General Duty Technologist at the Victoria Hospital.  In 2020, Jill moved into the Charge Technologist role.  Jill has volunteered her time in the profession with the MAMRT as Nuclear Medicine Representative and on the MAMRT Self-Regulation Ad Hoc Committee.  She has  worked towards developing a policy and procedure for Imaging Technologists assessing ports alongside vascular access nursing.  In her personal life, she enjoys spending time with her 2 dogs, reading and lifting heavy weights!

 

Chantel Jersak, RTR, RTMR

Role: General Duty MRI Technologist – Dauphin Regional Health Centre

 

Chantel Jersak graduated as a Radiologic Technologist from Red River College in 2010.  Shortly after graduation, she began her career as an MRT as a General Duty Radiologic Technologist at Health Sciences Centre and a few months later accepted a full time position at Pan Am Clinic.  Over her 12 year career as a radiological technologist, Chantel provided imaging in various roles including pain clinic procedures, EKG’s, portables, OR procedures, ER, urgent care, inpatient and outpatient exams, sports medicine imaging as well as basic uninfused CT exams.  During her time at Pan Am Clinic, Chantel became interested in Apps and trained technologists at private clinics in Alberta for the Winnipeg based x-ray equipment company CDI.  In 2014, Chantel started the part-time distance advanced MRI certificate program through BCIT while she continued to work full-time.  She was able to finish the MRI program in Winnipeg with clinical training at Health Sciences Centre.  Chantel graduated from BCIT with distinction in 2017 and went back to Pan Am Clinic where she worked part-time x-ray and part-time MRI.  In 2021, Chantel made the tough decision to leave Winnipeg to pursue a full-time MRI position in Dauphin.  In addition to working in MRI, Chantel also helps out in the Dauphin X-ray department with general duty x-ray and ECG exams.  Chantel recently completed the Magnetic Resonance Safety Course.  Along with learning, Chantel enjoys volunteering and served as the final MAMRT Vice President and MRI Representative prior to its dissolution.  She recently joined the CAMRT-MB Self-Regulation Committee.  Chantel is passionate about advocating for MRTs and raising awareness of the MRT profession, especially in rural Manitoba.  When Chantel is not working or volunteering, you can find her on any hiking trail in Riding Mountain National Park rain, snow or shine!
