The following awards recognize the extraordinary accomplishments of members who have contributed to their profession in exceptional ways. They are the highest honours granted by the CAMRT.
The nomination submission deadline is January 15th, 2025. Forms for nominations are linked within the descriptions of the individual awards below.
Life Membership
Description
Life Membership represents the highest form of recognition by one’s peers and is designed to honour a member of the CAMRT whose professional activities have promoted the MRT profession nationally or internationally, whose leadership serves to motivate others to become involved in professional activities, and who has been involved in raising the profile of the CAMRT.
Eligibility
The Board of Directors of the association may confer this classification of membership on current Full Practice, Non-Practicing (in the Full Practice qualified), Limited Practice or Senior Member categories.
The significant contribution must be demonstrated over at least 25 years of CAMRT membership as identified above, and service to the profession/association at a national and/or international level.
No member holding office in the association shall be eligible for nomination to this class of distinguished membership while in office.
Nomination and Selection
Nominees for Life Membership may be put forward by the Provincial Organizations or any five (5) members of the CAMRT. A call for nominations is sent out to provinces and members by early Fall each year. The Board Awards Sub-Committee will make their recommendations at the late winter board meeting.
Only one Life Membership may be conferred yearly.
The Life Member certificate and an engraved trophy will be presented to the individual during the Celebration of Excellence at the Annual Governance Forum.
Judging Criteria
- Is the nominee an eligible CAMRT member?
- Has the nominee promoted the profession nationally and/or internationally?
- Does the nominee’s leadership serve to motivate others to become involved in professional activities?
- Has the nominee been involved in raising the profile of the CAMRT?
- Has the nominee made consistent contributions to the CAMRT?
- Is the nominee recognized as a leader in the profession?
Honorary Life Membership
Description
Honorary Life Membership is designed to honour an individual whose professional activities have promoted the MRT profession nationally or internationally, whose leadership serves to motivate others to become involved in professional activities, and who has been involved in raising the profile of the CAMRT or the profession.
Eligibility
- Persons eligible may include persons who are not otherwise eligible for CAMRT membership, such as:
- Those who are employed by Commercial Organizations
- Those who are a member in the Commercial Representative Category, or
- Those who are a Non-Practicing Member in the international category.
- The significant contribution must be demonstrated over at least 15 years of service to the profession/association at a national or international level.
Nomination and Selection
Nominees for Honorary Life Members may be put forward by Provincial Organizations or any five (5) CAMRT members. A call for nominations is sent out to the provinces and members by early Fall each year. The Board Awards Sub-Committee will make their recommendations at the late winter board meeting.
Only one Honorary Life Membership may be conferred yearly.
The Honorary Life Member certificate and an engraved trophy will be presented to the individual during the Celebration of Excellence at the Annual Governance Forum.
Judging Criteria
- Has the nominee promoted the profession nationally and/or internationally?
- Does the nominee’s leadership serve to motivate others to become involved in professional activities?
- Has the nominee been involved in raising the profile of the CAMRT?
- Are the nominee’s contributions to the profession widely recognized?
Welch Memorial Lecture
Description
The Welch Memorial Lecture was established in 1951 to honour Mr. Herbert M. Welch, one of the pioneer members of the association. Mr. Welch was also president of the association from 1949 to 1950.
To be chosen to deliver this lecture is considered an honour, which is bestowed upon a member of the CAMRT who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession at a national level. The recipient must have influenced the growth of the profession in clinical practice, education, research, and/or administration. The Welch Memorial Lecture may be on the lecturer’s topic of choice.
Note: The current year’s Welch Memorial Lecturer is not eligible to participate in the CAMRT Competitive Awards (essay/exhibit).
Eligibility
- Nominees should be Current Full Practice or Non-Practicing Members in the Full Practice Qualified, or Senior Member categories.
- There is no restriction as to years of membership within CAMRT.
- Ability and willingness to provide a noteworthy presentation that is reflective of the vision and values of the association.
Nomination and Selection
Nominees for the Welch Memorial Lecturer may be put forward by Provincial Organizations or individual CAMRT members. A call for nominations is sent out to the provinces and members by early Fall each year. The Board Awards Sub-Committee will make their recommendations at the late winter board meeting.
The Welch Memorial lecture will be presented during the following year’s Annual Governance Forum.
As a record of having gained the distinction of delivering the Welch Memorial Lecture, the association provides an engraved trophy, which each recipient keeps as a permanent memento.

- Has the nominee made a significant contribution to the profession at the national level?
- Has the nominee influenced the growth of the profession in (one or more of):
- Clinical practice
- Education
- Research

- Has the nominee promoted and perpetuated excellence in the profession?
- Has the nominee influenced others toward higher levels of achievement and/or attainment?
- Is the nominee recognized as a leader in the profession?
Dr. Marshall Mallett Lamp of Knowledge Award
Description
Sponsored by the CAMRT Foundation, the Dr. Marshall Mallett Lamp of Knowledge Award is designed to honour a member of the CAMRT who, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, has made a significant contribution to the profession and/or association at a national level in the field of education. The Alberta Division first donated the Marshall Mallett Award to the CAMRT in 1957.
Eligibility
- Current Full Practice or Non-Practicing Member in the Full Practice Qualified, or Senior Member categories.
- There is no restriction as to years of membership within CAMRT.

- Is the nominee a CAMRT member?
- Has the nominee’s significant contribution in the field of education had a national impact?
- Has the nominee developed significant educational programs and/or courses that, for example, allowed or facilitated a significant shift in the profession?
- Does the nominee contribute regularly to professional education by: e.g., conducting sessions; publishing articles; mentoring or supporting students?
- Has the nominee helped to establish and/or promote high standards in education for the profession?
- Is the nominee seen as a leader in the field of education for the profession?
Steward of the Profession Award
Description
Sponsored by the CAMRT, the Steward of the Profession Award honours a CAMRT member who has advocated for and worked to advance the profession at both the national and provincial levels. By doing so the member has demonstrated the importance of playing an active role in strengthening and advancing their profession.
Eligibility
- Current CAMRT members in good standing
- Current board members or staff are not eligible for recognition in this category

As a record of having gained the distinction of receiving the Steward of the Profession Award, recipients will receive an engraved trophy, which they keep as a permanent memento.
Judging Criteria
- What evidence is there that the nominee has:
- made significant contributions as a volunteer to the profession both provincially and nationally?
- led others to become involved as volunteers to build and strengthen the profession?
- supported others in the profession through efforts such as mentoring?
- raised the profile of the profession by advocating for the profession and for patients served by MRTs?
- supported efforts to raise the standards of the profession in clinical practice, education, research or management?
- What evidence is there that the nominee is regarded as a steward or champion of the profession in their province and nationally?
Early Professional Achievement Award
Description
Sponsored by the CAMRT, the Early Professional Achievement Award is designed to honour a member of the CAMRT who, in the opinion of the Board of Directors has provided, at an early stage in their career, inspiration and leadership to their colleagues by acting as a role model of professionalism and/or volunteerism.
The CAMRT would like to recognize early career achievements amongst members so as to assist in highlighting its vision for the profession and its expectation that members will contribute to the profession. It wants to encourage technologists early in their careers to become involved with their professional organizations and believes honouring them at this early stage emphasizes the CAMRT’s commitment to members at all points of their professional life.
Eligibility
- Current Full Practice member in the full practice qualified category.
- Members who are within the first ten (10) years of their careers as an MRT.
- Current board members are not eligible for recognition in this category.
Nomination and Selection
Nominees for this award may be put forward by Provincial Organizations or individual CAMRT members. A call for nominations is sent out to the provinces and members by early Fall each year. The Board Awards Sub-Committee will make their recommendations at the late winter board meeting.
Since the recipient must have made a significant contribution, the award will only be given when deemed appropriate. If given, the award will be presented during the Celebration of Excellence at the Annual Governance Forum. There may be up to five awards presented annually.
As a record of having gained the distinction of receiving the Early Professional Achievement Award, recipients will receive an engraved plaque, which they keep as a permanent memento. They will also receive complimentary full national membership for the next membership year. (This excludes the respective provincial organization’s membership fees.)
Judging Criteria
- Is the nominee a CAMRT member?
- Has the nominee acted as a role model of professionalism and/or volunteerism in one or more of:
- Clinical practice
- Education
- Research
- Administration
- Has the nominee provided inspiration and/or leadership that has the potential to influence the profession beyond their province?
- Has the nominee influenced others toward higher levels of achievement and/or attainment?
- Is the nominee recognized as a leader in their province?
Grassroots Advocacy Award
Description
Established in 2016, the CAMRT Grassroots Advocacy Award is designed to honour a member of the CAMRT who, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, has made a significant contribution to the profession and/or association through advocacy.
Eligibility
- CAMRT Full Practice or Non-Practicing Member in the Full Practice Qualified or Senior Member categories
- Evidence of significant achievement in grassroots government or public advocacy.
- The Advocacy must have been related activities specific to or that impact on the MRT profession
- No formal restriction on type of advocacy (may include government meetings, communications campaigns, etc.)
- Within the year prior to conferring the award
Nomination and Selection
Nominees for this award may be put forward by the Advocacy Advisory Council (AAC), Provincial Organizations or by individual CAMRT members. A call for nominations is sent out to the AAC, the provinces and members by early Fall of each year. The Board Awards Sub-Committee will make their recommendations at the late winter board meeting.
Since the recipient must have made a significant contribution, the award will only be given when deemed appropriate.
As a record of having gained the distinction of receiving the CAMRT Grassroots Advocacy Award, recipients receive an appropriate token of recognition, which they keep as a permanent memento.
Judging Criteria
- Is the nominee a CAMRT member?
- Has the nominee taken part in government relations or public advocacy for the MRT profession at the national, provincial or local level?
- Has the nominee, through advocacy, influenced the growth of the MRT profession in one or more of:
- Clinical practice
- Education
- Research
- Administration
- General recognition for the profession
- Has the nominee influenced others to take up professional advocacy?
Outstanding Service Award
Description
Sponsored by CAMRT, the Outstanding Service Award honors a staff member or volunteer who has served the CAMRT with dedication, integrity and commitment to the values and mission of the CAMRT. By doing so the individual has demonstrated long term commitment, exceptional performance and engagement in performing their service and significantly influenced the success of the association and the profession.
Eligibility
- Must have been employed by or contributed service to the CAMRT for a minimum of 10 years.
- Must have demonstrated a contribution that has significantly impacted the direction and quality of service provided by the association and/or the direction of the profession.
- Current Board members are not eligible for this award.
Nomination and Selection
Nominees for this award may be put forward by CAMRT members, CAMRT staff and CAMRT Board members. Nominations will be reviewed by the Awards Committee with a recommendation made to the Board for approval. There does not need to be a recipient every year. The recipient will receive a gift as a memento.
Guidelines for Selection of Recipient
- Is the number of years of service 10 or more years?
- Has the nominee interacted in a positive manner with others and been sought out as a team member or leader?
- Is the nominee recognized for a high level of commitment and dedication?
- Has the nominee influenced and mentored others to seek higher achievement within the profession?
- Has the nominee recognized what is required to improve or change the direction of service/practice that will enhance the credibility of the association/profession and consistently contributed exceptional work that has a lasting impact?
