Director of Advocacy & Communications
Due to the pending retirement of the incumbent, we are looking for an experienced association professional with expertise in advocacy and communications to join our executive team at our office in downtown Ottawa. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Advocacy and Communications will have overall responsibility for initiatives that advance CAMRT’s objectives regarding advocacy and stakeholder relations; strategic internal and external communications; issues management & media relations; publications, both print and electronic; social marketing and branding; and communications advisory and creative services for internal departments at CAMRT.
The position requires superior written and oral communication skills in English and in French (mandatory), as well as a baccalaureate level of education in communications, public relations or a related field of study, and 5-10 years of combined practical and leadership experience in three or more key areas of communications, including public and media relations, stakeholder/government relations, issue management, branding and social marketing.
The individual is a communications practitioner, ideally with experience in the health care sector, who has knowledge and in-depth understanding of the Canadian health care system. The individual should also have good general knowledge of the publication process and must have excellent editorial skills. Finally, the Director must be able to contribute to the continuous improvement of internal systems and procedures for their department and the association overall.
